Now the landlord cannot force the tenant to vacate the house without proper reason or legal notice. The tenant has got the right to live peacefully for the stipulated period. If the landlord violates the rules, he can also be fined.
- Right to complaint and redressal
The government has started online complaint portal and helpline numbers for tenants. The tenant can directly lodge a complaint in case of any problem or violation of rights by the landlord. Special courts have also been created for quick resolution of disputes.
- Right to return security deposit
Now the landlord will have to return the security deposit within the stipulated time when the tenant vacates the house. It will now be illegal to withhold money without a valid reason.

Essential services like water, electricity, gas cannot be stopped.
